Southampton Wire verifies every event listing through official sources and direct contact with organisers before publication. Our fact‑checking lead, Diane Forbes, works with Lucy Palmer to confirm date, time, location and contact details. Listings submitted by third parties are checked against council records, venue websites or public notices.
We require organisers to provide a verifiable point of contact, such as a named organiser, telephone number or official email address. If an event claims to be free but involves hidden costs, we will flag this. Any listing that cannot be independently confirmed within a reasonable timeframe may be held or declined. This process applies to all submissions, whether from community groups, businesses or individuals. Our editorial policy sets out the same rigour applied across our news coverage. How can I submit an event listing to your site?
You can submit an event listing by emailing our tips address at tips@southamptonwire.co.uk or by using the form on our Tip Us page. Please include the event name, date, time, exact location (with postcode), a brief description, a public contact phone number or website, and the name of the organising body.
Submissions are reviewed by Lucy Palmer, Community & Crime Correspondent, or Kieran Doherty, Local Politics & Council Editor, depending on the event’s theme. We aim to respond within one working day. If your event is commercial or promotional, it may be eligible for a paid placement – clearly mark your message as “Sponsored” so our team can direct you to the correct contact. All listings are subject to the same editorial standards that guide our news articles; we reserve the right to edit for clarity or length. What you can expect from us
We commit to publishing event listings that are accurate, timely and clearly labelled. Community and charity events are listed free of charge as part of our mission to serve Southampton and Hampshire. Commercial listings are marked as sponsored, and our editorial independence remains absolute – no payment influences whether a listing is fact‑checked or corrected.
Every listing is reviewed by at least one human editor before publication. We use digital tools only to help with formatting or summaries, never to generate event descriptions or fabricated data. If we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and transparently, following our corrections policy. We take corrections seriously. Once a change is verified, we update the listing and add a correction note at the bottom of the page. If the error involves a date, time or venue, we may also republish the corrected version and issue a short notice on our homepage or social channels.
